State Level Advocacy
State Level Advocacy
As we approach the 2026 Budget Session, running February 9 through March 6, our collective voice as school leaders is needed more than ever. Several major topics emerging from committee—recalibration and the state budget, K–12 literacy, school discipline, Hathaway scholarships, and homeschool student participation in activities—will directly shape the work we do every day. These issues influence our classrooms, our staff, our students, and the communities we serve.
Two areas in particular require the experience and credibility that only principals can bring: K–12 literacy and school discipline. The proposed school discipline bill takes an unnecessarily negative view of the leadership we provide. It implies that Wyoming principals need legislative correction to “do your job,” despite the fact that you create safe, structured, and supportive learning environments every single day. Your work deserves recognition—not mischaracterization—and lawmakers need to hear that from those who understand our school communities best.
This is a moment to step forward.
Your Voice Matters
Legislators need real stories from real principals. Your testimony—formal or informal—helps them understand how policy decisions affect students, especially in areas like literacy systems, behavioral supports, staffing, and school climate.

We are organizing principal presence throughout the session, and we need you to claim a day to be in Cheyenne. Please use the sign-up spreadsheet below to choose a date that works for you:
Sign-Up Spreadsheet: Principals Advocate
You will have support every step of the way. We will walk you through the process, help you prepare, and ensure you know what to expect. While you are there, you can:
-
Meet your legislators for coffee
-
Attend committee meetings
-
Testify if you choose
-
Share the stories and insights only a principal can offer
You do not need to be an expert on every issue. You simply need to bring the same informed, steady leadership you provide in your school each day.
Why Your Advocacy Matters
Every Wyoming school—large or small, rural or urban—depends on thoughtful policy and responsible investment. Showing up demonstrates the professionalism and dedication that define our principals. When we collectively speak up, we help protect and strengthen the high-quality public education our students deserve.
Please take a moment to select a date on the spreadsheet. Your students, your staff, and the future of Wyoming’s public schools need strong principal voices this session.
Thank you for stepping forward and for everything you do for your communities.
